Anything involving recognizable tones and patterns. Generally speaking, things not found on top 40 today. The closest to contemporary music would be Los Lobos., I'm partial to piano players nowadays: Dave Brubeck, Vince Guaraldi, Scott Joplin... I'm also fond of music that came out of the Bay Area in the 1960s; the Dead, Airplane, Creedence Clearwater, etc. Things that broke new ground and reflected the spirit of a place and a time that can still be tapped into, if you know where to look...
